The Dance at the Royal Series features four internationally renowned companies hailing from Vancouver, New York, and Spain. These artists invite us to step into their worlds – to immerse ourselves in their visions and imagine new possibilities to ignite transformation. A.I.M by Kyle Abraham (New York), “one of the most consistently excellent troupes working today” (New York Times), launches the season on a high note with a mixed contemporary program featuring works by Abraham, Andrea Miller, and Paul Singh. The beloved all-male comic group Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (New York) celebrates its 50th anniversary delighting die-hard ballet fans and newcomers alike. Ballet BC (Vancouver) continues to push creative boundaries with two new commissions by Fernando Hernando Magadan and Andrea Peña and the return of Johan Inger’s masterful PASSING. The season concludes with the North American premiere of Compañía Rafaela Carrasco’s (Spain) award-winning Nocturna, a poetic exploration of nighttime as a dark mirror into the human soul – and Dance Victoria’s first contemporary Flamenco presentation!
Subscribers receive discounts on three special presentations in 2024/25. At the Royal Theatre, Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Nutcracker, featuring live accompaniment by the Victoria Symphony, brings us the wintertime classic we all love – with a Canadian twist.
Dancers of Damelahamid’s (Squamish Territories) Raven Mother is an ambitious work, co-commissioned by Dance Victoria, that honours the late Elder Margaret Harris (1931–2020), a powerful upholder of Indigenous culture and revitalization.
Shamel Pitts | TRIBE (Brooklyn) will hypnotize audiences with the Western Canadian premiere of BLACK HOLE – Trilogy and Triathlon, combining dance, original sound, video projection, and light design in a tale of vitality and tenderness, darkness and light, personal growth and collective empowerment.
