An eminently respectable British industrialist and his family are subject to a routine inquiry in connection with the death during a dinner to celebrate the engagement of the couple’s daughter. During the course of the Inspector’s questioning, all members of the group are implicated in the girl’s undoing.

George Kimball is a Westchester commuter whose favourite hobby is hypochondria. When he mistakenly overhears his doctor discussing another patient with heart trouble, George begins to put his affairs in order and even arranges a good second husband for his soon-to-be widow, along with a cemetery plot for three: himself, his wife, and the new future Mr. Kimball.
