The Salty Scent of Home

Blending personal stories and poetry inspired by migratory birds—symbols of freedom and resilience, this production explores what it truly means to find a place you can call home. Shaped by her work with newcomer communities, director Kandil offers a poignant portrait of identity and connection.
Our Town (Nov. 6-22)

Praised by playwright Edward Albee as “the finest American play ever written,” this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic captures the beauty and fragility of everyday life. In the small town of Grover’s Corners, audiences follow the Gibbs and Webb families through childhood, marriage, and loss. A Sudden Violent Burst of Rain (Feb. 12–21)

A haunting, poetic fable of a young mother seeking a better life for her child, this visually striking work reflects on the cost of hope and the strength to persevere. Premiering at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it was hailed as “a captivating story… powerful, heart-wrenching and mesmeric.” Directed by MFA director Sophia Treanor, whose work has been produced internationally.
In My Day (Mar. 12–21)

Taking us back to the vibrant and tumultuous era of 1980s Vancouver, In My Day is a compelling verbatim theatre piece by Victoria playwright Rick Waines, based on over 100 real-life interviews. More than a history of the HIV/AIDS crisis, it’s a moving tribute of compassion, courage, and unexpected laughter in the face of fear and stigma. Guest director Roy Surette—renowned Canadian artist and frequent Belfry Theatre collaborator—brings this vital story to the stage.
