Victoria Choral Society presents RESILIENCE: Works for Choir and Organ

Victoria, BC — The Victoria Choral Society, under the direction of Music Director Brian Wismath, with acclaimed organist Mark McDonald, presents RESILIENCE: Works for Choir and Organ. This 80-minute concert, featuring repertoire spanning more than 300 years, will take place at Christ Church Cathedral at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025. VCS Choral Scholars will be featured as soloists throughout the program.
The title Resilience reflects the enduring power of both choral and organ music—art forms that have withstood centuries of change while continuing to inspire, uplift, and connect communities across generations.
The concert includes beloved classics such as Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer, and Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, alongside more contemporary works including MacMillan’s Magnificat, Parry’s I Was Glad, and Vasks’ Dona Nobis Pacem, among others.
This performance also celebrates the 20th anniversary of Christ Church Cathedral’s magnificent Hellmuth Wolff organ, an instrument that has been played for more than 20,000 hours — accompanying over 4,000 Cathedral services, 3,000 rehearsals, 200 concerts, and countless hours of practice by Cathedral musicians and distinguished organists from around the world.
The VCS Choral Scholars Program was created to support emerging young musicians in developing essential skills and leadership experience. To learn more about this exciting program and to donate, visit victoriachoralsociety.ca/choral-scholars/.
